۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
