The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 for, how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
