No! By the moon 32 and the night when it retreats 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 as if they were startled asses 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
