The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
