The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made things easy for them. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
