He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
