'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
