The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or orders piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
