And when thy Lord called Moses, saying: Go unto the wrongdoing folk, 10 The folk of Pharaoh. Will they not ward off (evil)? 11 Moses replied, "My Lord, I fear they will reject me, 12 My heart is constrained, my tongue falters, so delegate Aaron; 13 "And they have a charge of crime against me, and I fear they will kill me." 14 [Allah] said, "No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening. 15 go both to Pharaoh and both of you say to him: 'We are (each) a Messenger from the Lord of all the Worlds. 16 Send with us the Children of Isra'il? 17 [Pharaoh] said, "Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life? 18 and you did the deed which you did. You are certainly ungrateful." 19 He (Moses) replied: 'Indeed, I did that when I was among those who stray. 20 and I fled from you because I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me one of the messengers. 21 Now this is the favour that you tauntingly remind me of: that you enslaved the Children of Israel!" 22 Pharaoh said: "And who is this Lord of the Universe?" 23 [Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced." 24 The Pharaoh said to the people around him, "Did you hear that?" 25 He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 26 [Pharaoh] exclaimed: "Behold, [this] your 'apostle' who [claims that he] has been sent unto you is mad indeed! 27 [But Moses] went on: "[He of whom I speak is] the Sustainer of the east and the west and of all that is between the two - as you would know]" if you would but use your reason!" 28 Said he: If you will take a god besides me, I will most certainly make you one of the imprisoned. 29 He said: even though I bring unto thee something manifest? 30 (Pharaoh) said: Produce it then, if thou art of the truthful! 31 So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest. 32 and he drew his hand (out of his armpit) and lo! it had become a shining object to the beholders. 33
