Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions ranged 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
