The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the heaven and the Morning Star 1 And what shall make thee know that which the night-comer is? 2 It is the piercing star. 3 For every soul there is a watcher. 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 He has been created from an ejected drop of fluid 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Most surely He is able to return him (to life). 8 On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. 9 So man will neither have any strength nor any aide. 10 By the sky with its returning rain, 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 That this (Qur'an) is a decisive word 13 not a flippant jest. 14 Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)). 15 and I am devising guile. 16 Therefore respite the unbelievers, and delay them for a while. 17
