The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
