The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
