Nay! By the moon 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning to mankind, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 like frightened donkeys 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
