A company of the former peoples 39 and many from the later generations. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
