He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
