Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
