The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
