The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
