He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
