The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
