The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 Pollution shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
