Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
