The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 who, when people measure for them, take full measure, 2 But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 on a fateful Day. 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe, on that day, to those who have rejected God's revelations 10 Those who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 Then they will indeed burn in Hell. 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 On thrones, they shall gaze; 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They shall be given to drink of a wine that is sealed, 25 The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations: 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a spring, the nearest ones to God will drink from it. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
True are the words of God the Almighty.
