In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
