The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Eager to roast; 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those who pray, 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
