The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 By the meteors rushing, 2 and by [the clouds] that swim serenely and 3 and those that outstrip suddenly 4 and by those who regulate events. 5 On the day when the first trump resoundeth. 6 There will follow it the subsequent [one]. 7 Hearts will pound loudly on that day, 8 while eyes will be downcast. 9 (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state 10 Even after we are crumbled bones? 11 They say: "Then this returning will be a dead loss." 12 But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, 13 to bring them out of their graves and back to life on the earth's surface. 14 Did the news of Moosa reach you? 15 When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa: 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 And say, "Hast thou the will to purify thyself; 18 And that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him? 19 And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace]. 20 but he cried lies, and rebelled, 21 and brusquely turned his back [on Moses]; 22 then he mustered 23 Saying: "I am alone your lord, the highest of them all." 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing. 26
