The Cave (Al-Kahf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah, Who hath sent to His Servant the Book, and hath allowed therein no Crookedness: 1 right, to warn of great violence from Him, and to give good tidings unto the believers, who do righteous deeds, that theirs shall be a goodly wage 2 [a state of bliss] in which they shall dwell beyond the count of time. 3 And that it may warn those who say: "God has begotten a son." 4 No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. Mighty is the word that comes out of their mouths [i.e. He begot (took) sons and daughters]. They utter nothing but a lie. 5 Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow. 6 We have appointed all that is on the earth an adornment for it, in order that We try which of them is finest in works. 7 And indeed We shall one day make all that is on it a barren plain. 8 Or, do you think the companions of the Cave and the tomb stone were a wonder among Our signs? 9 When the youths sought refuge in the cave, they said: Our Lord! grant us mercy from Thee, and provide for us a right course in our affair. 10 Then We caused them to fall into a deep sleep for many years inside the cave. 11 We then awakened them to see which of the two groups more accurately tells the period they had stayed. 12
