The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 they see it as being far off; 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Are free of blame, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
