The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And dense gardens. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
