Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 "And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?" 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
