The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
