The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
