The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
