a large group of the earlier people 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
