The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be condemned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
