He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
