The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
