The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
