۞ It is God Who created you from a single soul and out of it made its spouse to bring it comfort. When he (man) engaged in carnal relations with her, she conceived a light burden which she had to carry. When the baby grew in her womb, they (husband and wife) both prayed to their Lord, "If You grant us a healthy son we shall certainly give you thanks." 189 But when He giveth them a goodly child, they ascribe to others a share in the gift they have received: but Allah is exalted high above the partners they ascribe to Him. 190 What, do they associate that which creates nothing and themselves are created, 191 Who can neither help them, nor help themselves? 192 If ye call them to guidance, they will not obey: For you it is the same whether ye call them or ye hold your peace! 193 Those whom you invoke besides God are created beings like you. So call on them and let them answer your call, if what you say is true. 194 Have they feet to walk with? Or hands to lay hold with? Or eyes to see with? Or ears to hear with? Say: "Call your 'god-partners', scheme (your worst) against me, and give me no respite! 195 My protector is God who sent down the Book, for it is He who protects the righteous. 196 Those whom you call on besides Him have no power to help you, nor can they help themselves." 197 And if you were to call them to true guidance, they will not hear; and you observe them looking at you whereas they have no power to see.' 198 Hold to forgiveness; command what is right; But turn away from the ignorant. 199 And if it happens that a prompting from Satan should stir you up, seek refuge with Allah. He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. 200 If the God-fearing are instigated by any suggestion of Satan, they instantly become alert, whereafter they clearly perceive the right way. 201 And their brothers, they prolong them in error, and they will never stop. 202 And if you do not bring them a miracle [according to their (i.e. Quraish-pagans') proposal], they say: "Why have you not brought it?" Say: "I but follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (the Quran) is nothing but evidences from your Lord, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe." 203 So when the Qur'an is recited, listen thereto and keep silence, haply ye may be shewn mercy. 204 And remember your Lord within yourself humbly and fearing and in a voice not loud in the morning and the evening and be not of the heedless ones. 205 Verily those who are in the presence of your Lord are never too proud to worship and celebrate His praises, and bow in homage to Him'. ۩ 206
