Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
