The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he approached and descended 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
