Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
