The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
