He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
