The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
