The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
