The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 no people can forestall their doom, nor can they delay it. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 So We make it enter the hearts of the sinners. 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
