The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the mount 1 By the book inscribed. 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
