۞ AND PROPOUND unto them the parable of two men, upon one of whom We had bestowed two vinyards, and surrounded them with date-palms, and placed a field of grain in-between. 32 Both these gardens yielded their fruits, and failed not aught thereof, and We caused a river to gush forth in their midst, 33 And he had property (or fruit) and he said to his companion, in the course of mutual talk: I am more than you in wealth and stronger in respect of men." [See Tafsir Qurtubi, Vol. 10, Page 403]. 34 And he walked into his garden, and, (forgetting) his limit, said: "I cannot imagine that this will ever be ruined, 35 Nor do I think that the Hour will come. Even if I returned to my Lord, I should surely find a better place than this' 36 His comrade, when he (thus) spake with him, exclaimed: Disbelievest thou in Him Who created thee of dust, then of a drop (of seed), and then fashioned thee a man? 37 But he is Allah, my Lord; and with my Lord I associate not anyone. 38 “And why was it not that you would have said when you entered your garden, ‘Whatever Allah wills – we do not have any strength except with the help of Allah’ – if you had observed me lesser than you in wealth and children.”? 39 my Lord may well give me a garden better than yours and send down thunderbolts from heaven upon your vineyard, turning it into a barren waste; 40 or cause the streams in your garden to disappear under the ground such that you will never be able to find them. 41 So it was, and all his fruit was destroyed. The vines had all fallen down on their trellises, and their owner wrung his hands, bewailing all that he had spent on his garden. He said, "Would that I had not associated anyone with my Lord!" 42 for now he had nought to succour him in God's stead, nor could he succour himself. 43 Thereover protection belongs only to God the True; He is best rewarding, best in the issue. 44
